HISTORY OF SAVAR GOLF CLUB

1.         Savar Golf Club (SGC) is situated opposite to the “Infantry gate” of Savar cantonment. In the back drop of distinguished National Memorial, the lush green field, glittering artificial canals and massive waving trees of the SGC attracts people passing by. In its panoramic view, SGC is a splendid artwork by any standard.

The ground work for a 9 (Nine) hole golf course in Savar Cantonment started in 1991-1992 under the direct supervision of Major General Mohammad Abdul Matin, BP, psc, General Officer Commanding, 9 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Savar Area. In his team, Brigadier General Monwar Hossain, psc(Commander, 9 Artillery Brigade), Colonel M Harun-or-Rashid, psc(Later Lt Gen and CAS) (Commander 81 Infantry Brigade), Brigadier General Fazlur Rahman (Commander 71 Infantry Brigade), Colonel Kazi Tajul Islam (Station Commander) (Later Major General), Colonel Eric Rozario (Colonel Administration) were the pioneer foundation Layers.

Major General Imamuzzaman, BB, psc, the Senior Vice President of Savar Golf Club alongwith the team of officials Brigadier General ASM Mostafa Kamal Khan (Commander 9 Artillery Brigade), Brigadier General Mohammad Nural Haque (Commander 71 Infantry Brigade), Brigadier General Shah Md Sultan Uddin Iqbal, BP, psc (Commander 81 Infantry Brigade), Colonel KM Anwar Hossain (Station Commander), Colonel M Nurul Islam, psc (Colonel Administration), Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Islam Tafadder (Commander MES) gave their price less sweat and time to bring SGC into existence with approx 86.11 acors of land. After necessary ground & infrastructure development works it officially started on 25^th December 1996. It was a 9 hole course, in the beginning, but in 2001 it got its final up gradation with 18 holes of par 72 course. The presence of several canals make this course even more challenging. SGC provides sports opportunity round the year. Even one hour after heavy shower, SGC becomes ready for golfing.

The construction of new club house started on 15 October 2003 and completed on 14 October 2008. The newly constructed club house supplements the appeal of the SGC. It is furnished with all the modern services and amenities. The very artistic and well laid out club house is designed to draw the mind of any golfers. The Multi-Purpose Hall room, 2 Air Conditioned Rooms, Conference room, Ground Floor Lobby, Prayer room, Change room, Car Parking and the Restaurant all makes the club house in its distinctive identity. These facilities are open to be offered to any Group, Company or in individual for holding AGM, Conference, Wedding & Reception Ceremony, Picnic and Shooting, (Video, Cinema, Drama) etc.
